Water is a very important part of Armenian culture as Armenians have been surrounded by water in the Armenian Highland for ever. The importance of water for Armenians can be symbolized in the Vartavar day when people splash themselves with water as a remembrance of pagan times to celebrate fecondity. 

Therefore, Yerevan has a lot of water features and fountains worth of exploring in addition to being surrounded by the Hrazdan river and canyon with its source originating from the lake Sevan. Often missed by tourists and even locals, the Hrazdan river canyon is however a natural wonder of Yerevan that should not be overlooked.
